Phyllis (Cousin) 31st March 2010

Jose, Marlene and I got to spend a wonderful day with her in New York prior to her big trip back on the Queen Mary. We were so delighted in our dear cousin for her adventurous spirit in traveling all over late in life! It was in conversation with her that day that I learned how incredibly open-minded and non-judgmental she was, especially for someone her age. I also learned that day that she took time out of her honeymoon to detour to Dublin to visit our mother in the hospital when our dear mother was nearing her end. If there’s ever a time in life when one is expected to be self-centered, it is certainly during a honeymoon! But your mother told us that she did it because she loved our mother. That is yet another example of her many acts of kindness and selflessness. It also tells of your dear father’s great character. That she raised two such loving and devoted sons by herself after your dear father died is certainly a testament to the wonderful parent she was. And in giving of herself to others in her many years of volunteering, her loving nature and generous spirit spread beyond family, as well as providing example and inspiration for you.
