The war ended when Daphne was 17. With the family house in East London demolished by a German bomb in the blitz, the family moved from Windsor to Feltham, Middlesex . In 1951, they moved back to East London, to Swedenborg Square in Wapping, very close to The Tower of London. Daphne wanted to be a nurse but times were tough and her mother sent her to work as seamstress. She became a high quality seamstress working at a court dressmaker in Knighstbridge. At the marriage of Daphne’s school friend Margaret, she met again the bridegroom Jack’s brother, Isaac (Sid). Rumour has it Sid asked Jack to be put on Daphne’s table. In June 1951 they became engaged and a few years later on 8th March, 1953 they were married. Sid was the 4th eldest of six brothers, Colman, Nathan, Jack, Sis, Albert and Norman. After marriage, they moved to Romford Street in East London. First child, Raymond Francis, was born 6 weeks premature at Royal London Hospital on 23 December 1955.
